A gang sheet is the single biggest way to cut your DTF cost per print. Instead of running one design at a time, you pack many designs onto one continuous sheet of film — paying for the film you actually use and almost none wasted. Here’s how to build and order them the right way.
What is a gang sheet?
A gang sheet is one large DTF film (typically 22″–24″ wide by whatever length you need) filled with multiple designs “ganged” together. You then cut the individual transfers apart and press them one by one. Because DTF is priced largely by film area, filling every inch is what drives your per-print cost down.
Why gang sheets save money
- Less wasted film. Empty space is money you paid for and can’t use.
- Mixed designs, one run. Different logos, names, and sizes can share a sheet.
- Bulk efficiency. One long sheet prints faster and handles easier than dozens of small ones.
How to build a gang sheet
- Pick your width. Match it to your film — most shops build to 22″ usable on a 24″ roll. Our film guide covers widths.
- Set the length. Longer sheets fit more and cost less per square inch. Common sizes: 22″×24″, 22″×60″, 22″×120″.
- Add your designs at full print size. Build artwork at the exact pressed dimensions — don’t scale up later or you’ll lose sharpness.
- Nest tightly, but leave a gap. Keep about 0.2″–0.4″ (5–10mm) between designs so you have room to cut cleanly without nicking a neighbor.
- Rotate to fill. Turn designs 90° to slot into gaps — maximize coverage.
- Export correctly. High-resolution PNG with a transparent background, 300 DPI, so only the artwork gets white ink and adhesive.
File setup that avoids reprints
- Transparent background — any non-transparent area prints white ink behind it.
- 300 DPI at final size — low-res art prints soft and jagged.
- Clean edges — remove stray pixels; they become tiny ink specks.
- Convert text to outlines so fonts don’t shift.
Cutting and pressing
Once cured, cut each design out leaving a small margin. Press per our heat-press settings, then follow wash & care so they last. Store leftover cut transfers flat, cool, and dry — they keep for months.
